About Marji Coulson

Qualifications and Experience:
I trained with the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy and I am a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist.  I also hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (BACP Accred.) and a Certificate in Working with Couples (LCPS).  I adhere to the UKCP Code of Professional and Ethical Conduct.
I am a Humanistic and Integrative therapist with Transactional Analysis as a core theoretical model.
I have worked in the NHS for a number of years and I also have a private Counselling and Psychotherapy practice in York.

How I Work:
My training and experience enable me to work in depth with thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour.  I place great importance on the nature and quality of the therapeutic relationship as a means of addressing and changing ways of thinking and feeling.

I believe that what happens to us in childhood can shape the way we think and behave as adults, and this may lead to difficulties in forming satisfying relationships, in being able to resolve conflict or in feeling stuck and unable to move forward with our lives.  Part of our work together may focus on gaining an understanding of your early years as a way of empowering you to make changes in your present life situation.

I work in many different ways in order to enable people to gain insight, overcome difficulties and move on with their lives.

I offer individual short-term Counselling and longer-term Psychotherapy to a wide-range of clients. I also offer Counselling to couples who are experiencing relationship difficulties.

Where I Work:
My practice is based in Fulford, York.  It is easily accessible by car (parking is available on the road outside) and it is also on a major bus route.

Specialist Areas:
Depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, identity problems, gender issues, eating disorders, stress, work-related problems, relationship issues, bereavement and dying, childhood trauma and sexual abuse

Sessions are face-to-face, usually once a week, but sometimes twice weekly, if appropriate.  Some evening appointments are available. The initial assessment session lasts between 1 hr to 1 ½ hours and each subsequent session lasts for 50 minutes.

My fees are:

Initial Assessment Session:
£48 individual
£55 couples

Subsequent Sessions:
